Aging Procedure
Not applicable. AL Clad 2024 is used in the "as supplied" condition.
Annealing Procedure
Annealing is to be avoided as it could result in diffusion of the core and clad materials thus disturbing the corrosion protection of the cladding alloy.
Applications
Commonly used in the manufacture of truck wheels, aircraft structures, and screw machine products, scientific instruments, veterinary and orthopedic braces and equipment, and in rivets.
Cold Workability
AL Clad 2024 cold works as does AL 2024.
Forgeability
Forging is not done on the Al Clad alloys. They are used in the "as supplied" form.
Formability
Forming characteristics are basically the same as for AL 2024.
Hardening Procedure
Hardens by cold working.
Heat Treatability
Heat treatment is to be avoided as it would result in diffusion of the core and clad alloys thus disturbing the corrosion protection of the clad AL 1230 alloy. Clad alloys are used in the "as supplied" condition.
Hot Workability
Hot working is to be avoided as it would result in diffusion of the core and cladding alloys thus disturbing the corrosion protection of the clad material.
Machinability
Machinability is the same as for AL 2024.
Other Comments
AL Clad 2024 has a core of AL 2024 alloy and is typically clad on both sides with AL 1230 alloy to a thickness ranging from 1.5% to 5% of the total clad product thickness.

Principle Design Features
AL Clad 2024 consists of a core of alloy AL 2024 with AL 1230 cladding on both sides. The cladding provides anodic protection against corrosion of the core material.
Tempering Procedure
Not applicable.
Weldability
AL Clad 2024 may be welded but the weld area will undergo diffusion of the core and cladding alloys and thus disturb the corrosion protection of the clad AL 1230 alloy.
