Aluminum 2219

Aging Procedure

AL Clad 2219 is used in the "as supplied" condition and should not be heated.

Annealing Procedure

Annealing should be avoided as it could result in diffusion between the cladding and core alloys thus disturbing the corrosion protection of the AL 7072 cladding.

Applications

Commonly used in the manufacture of structural components used in high temperature applications as well as high strength weldments.

Cold Workability

The AL Clad 2219 cold works as does the unclad AL 2219 alloy.

Forgeability

AL Clad 2219 is used in the "as supplied" condition. Forging should not be done as the heating would disturb the corrosion protection of the clad AL 7072 alloy.

Formability

Forming characteristics are those of alloy AL 2219 in the unclad condition.

Hardening Procedure

Hardens by cold working.

Heat Treatability

Heat treatment is to be avoided as it would cause diffusion of the cladding and core alloys thus disturbing the corrosion protection intended from the AL 7072 cladding.

Hot Workability

Hot working could result in diffusion of the core and clad alloys thus disturbing the corrosion protection afforded by the AL 7072 alloy. AL Clad 2219 is used in the "as supplied" condition.

Machinability

Machinability is basically the same as for AL 2219 alloy.

Other Comments

AL Clad 2219 consists of AL 7072 cladding on both sides of the core AL 2219 alloy. The cladding provides anodic corrosion protection to the core material. Cladding thickness ranges from 2.5% to 10% of the total product thickness.

Other Mechanical Properties

Mechanical properties are those of the core material - Alloy AL 2219.

Other Physical Properties

Physical properties are basically those of the core alloy material, AL 2219 in this instance.

Principle Design Features

AL Clad 2219 consists of a core of AL 2219 with AL 7072 cladding on both sides. The cladding provides anodic corrosion protection to the core material.

Tempering Procedure

Not applicable.

Weldability

AL Clad 2219 may be welded. However the weld and HAZ area will undergo diffusion of the alloys and thus change the corrosion protection of the clad material AL 7072.
