Aluminum 7075

Aging Procedure

AL Clad 7075 is used in the "as supplied" condition.

Annealing Procedure

Annealing should not be done as it can disturb the corrosion resistance of the clad AL 7072 alloy due to diffusion between core and cladding alloys.

Applications

Commonly used in the manufacture of aircraft and other aerospace applications not requiring the corrosion resistance of Clad 7075.

Cold Workability

Cold working characteristics are the same as for unclad AL 7075 alloy.

Forgeability

AL Clad 7075 is used in the "as supplies" condition and is not subsequently forged.

Formability

Forming characteristics are those of unclad AL 7075 alloy.

Hardening Procedure

Hardens by cold working.

Heat Treatability

Heat treatment should be avoided so as to not disturb the corrosion protection of the clad AL 7072 alloy.

Hot Workability

Hot working could disturb the corrosion resistance of the AL 7072 cladding. Thus AL Clad 7075 is used in the "as supplied" condition.

Machinability

Machinability is that of unclad alloy AL 7075.

Other Comments

AL Clad 7075 has the corrosion resistance of AL 7072 (the cladding) with the properties of AL 7075 (core). The cladding, of AL 7072, may be on one or both sides and is typically 1.5% to 4% in thickness of the entire composite product.

Other Mechanical Properties

Mechanical properties of AL Clad 7075 are controlled by the core material, in this instance the properties of AL 7075 itself app

Other Physical Properties

Physical properties of AL Clad 7075 are basically those of unclad AL 7075 alloy.

Principle Design Features

AL Clad 7075 consists of a core of AL 7075 alloy with cladding on one side, or both sides, of alloy AL 7072. The AL 7072 cladding provides corrosion protection to the core material..

Tempering Procedure

Not applicable.

Weldability

AL Clad 7075 may be welded. However the weld and HAZ will result in a diffused alloy of the core and clad material and thus will change the corrosion resistance of the cladding AL 7072 alloy.
