Nickel Astroloy

Applications

Used for high-temperature rotating gas-turbine engine components such as turbine discs and other hot-section aerospace, naval, and industrial gas turbine parts requiring high strength at elevated temperature.

Corrosion Resistance

Provides good oxidation resistance in addition to high strength at elevated temperature.

Heat Treatability

Age-hardenable; standard processing is a solution treatment (sub- or super-solvus) followed by an aging treatment to precipitate strengthening gamma-prime phase.

Principle Design Features

Precipitation-hardenable (gamma-prime strengthened) nickel-base superalloy with a high level of alloying (Cr, Co, Mo, Al, Ti) that, due to segregation tendencies during conventional ingot casting, is almost exclusively produced by powder metallurgy (inert gas atomization plus hot isostatic pressing) followed by isothermal or conventional forging into billet and bar product.
