Annealing Procedure

For in process annealing, soak at 1300 F(704 C) for 3-4 hours. For complete annealing, a cycle anneal is necessary. Soak at 1450 F(788 C) for 3-4 hours, furnace cool to 800 F(427 C), air cool to 200 F(93 C) and reheat to 1300 F(704 C) for 12 hours followed by air cooling.

Applications

Commonly employed in a variety of gas turbine components including compressor parts and high temperature fasteners.

Forgeability

Work material in the range of 1750-2150 F(954-1177 C) and cool slowly in furnace or air.

Hardening Procedure

Soak at 1700 F(927 C) and quench rapidly, followed by tempering.

Machinability

Similar in characteristics to a 410 stainless steel. Positive feeds and slow speeds will produce best results.

Principle Design Features

This alloy is a hardenable martensitic stainless, intended for applications with service temperatures up to 1200 F(649 C). It obtains deep hardening and has superior creep strength to standard 12% chromium grades.

Tempering Procedure

Temper for desired hardness and quench rapidly in oil.

Weldability

Most common techniques can be used with this alloy. Preheating the weld piece to 400 F(204 C) is recommended. When filler metal is required, it is recommended that an austenitic, heat resisting alloy such as 310 be chosen for maximum weld strength and ductility.
