Not covered by this specification.
Formability
Forming characteristics are the same as for the plain carbon steels. being easily formed by conventional methods.
Hardening Procedure
Hardens by cold working - see also "Heat Treatment".
Heat Treatability
Tubing product covered by this specification is supplied in as drawn, or normalized, or stress relieved, or annealed condition. The specification does not cover subsequent heat treatment from the "as supplied" condition.
Hot Workability
Not covered by this specification. Contact the supplier for information if hot work is required.
Machinability
Machinability is good, being that of the plain carbon steels
Other Comments
This specification covers basically all of the plain carbon steels from 1010 through 1035 and also 1110, 1115 and 1117. Consult the individual alloys for properties both mechanical and physical.
Principle Design Features
This ASTM specification covers cold drawn, butt welded tube for mechanical applications. The steel involved is similar to AISI series of steels from 1010 through to 1117 steel.
