Principle Design Features

A trademarked alloy of Latrobe Specialty Steel, Ferrium M54 is a secondary hardening strength martensitic steel that exhibits very high strength (ultimate tensile strength of 294 ksi), very good toughness, and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). M54 was computationally designed to be a cost-effective, drop-in competitor to premium alloys such as AerMet® 100 (AMS 6532), yet offer equivalent-or-better properties. Typical applications can include aircraft landing gears, arresting tailhooks, flap tracks, actuators, drive shafts, sporting goods, fasteners, armor, blast-resistant or impact containment devices, and other highly-loaded structural applications.
