Gears, pinions, shafts and a variety of other carburized parts.
Forgeability
Heat through to 2050-2100 F and continue forging through 1700 F, but not below. Air cool.
Hardening Procedure
Austenitize at 1510-1560 F 45-90 minutes, oil quench to below 200 F and air cool to room temperature.
Heat Treatability
Normalize and temper 1750 F for 1 hour/ inch, air cool to room temperature. Maximum hardness: 277 BHN. Carburize at 1700 F for required case depth. Furnace cool at 1400 F in a carburizing atmosphere and air cool to room temperature. If required, temper for best machinability. At the surface, carbon should be .7-.9% and .4% or greater at the required case depth.
Principle Design Features
A premium quality carburizing grade with high hardenability and excellent cleanliness due to its Vacuum Arc melting.
Tempering Procedure
One hour minimum to desired case hardness, then air cool. If necessary, stabilize at -110F for 30 minutes and re-temper as instructed above.
